I’m a huge fan of wipeout. No, i’m not speaking of the current gameshow that was ripped off from the japanese show. I am, of course, speaking about the amazing futuristic racing shooter that originally started on the ps one.
After seeing this video, it brought back all the old dreams I had of becoming a pilot for one of these amazing crafts! How cool would it be if this actually became a real life thing? Granted, I’m not a big fan of being blown to little bits by the competition but it’d be amazing to race on these crazy tracks!
If you’d like to learn more about the game, check here. It’s easily one of the best racing games ever made. Also, check out an old site of wip3out designed by the super talented designers republic to get a feel for the style and design of the game.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been playing the Imposters beta on 360, like I’m sure some of you have. If you didn’t get in on this interesting game this will fill you in on what you missed.
First things first! The Intro
Now that we got that out of the way, to the game itself!
Gotham City Impostors, or GCI as no one calls it, is a comical shooter that oddly feels like Call of duty and Team Fortress 2’s baby. The controls and pretty easy to use and the maps are simple yet elegant.
Game Types:
In the beta, they only let us play Fumigation and Psych Warfare. Both of them are great adaptations of much loved game types from many shooters out there.
-Fumigation is your basic Domination match type where teams battle to take three points on a map. The difference is the tug-of-war gameplay it creates. As your team captures and holds points, the air starts to fill with bats or toxic gas. Each point taken increases the point gain for your team. But if you lose those gas blasters your team starts to lose points. This makes for some very interesting last minute victories.
-Psych Warfare
By far my favorite of the two, this game mode works much like demolition from CoD. You pick up a battery in a neutral location, then carry it to the enemy’s side of the map and attach it to a propaganda machine. After 30 seconds of charging, the machine goes off and demoralizes your enemies. For the next 30 seconds, they can’t shoot or see very well. They can, however, slap you to get a few kills. If you are demoralized you here “You suck, you suck. Your friends have given up and you should just go home.” While this goes on, the winning teams here “You are awesome! You are strong!” It makes for a little comic relief if you are losing horribly.
The unlock system in the game also has a few unique touches. Every few levels you recieve unlock keys that are designated as Weapon, Gadget, Body Type, Attachment, and Fun Facts (the perk system). Use these unlock keys sparingly at first because it takes a while to get more.
Class customization is along the same lines as CoD. You have weapons to unlock, with attachments that range from the conventional red dot scope, to the oddly useful odor sniffer, which shows your enemy’s locations to you. Under class customization, you also have the choice of 5 body types! Each has their pros and cons. They range from a skinny guy, to a hulk of a human being, and everything in between. And for the girl gamers out there, you have a female body type in the mix.
Gadgets are where the game truly stands out. You can unlock grappling hooks, roller skates, spring boots, glider wings, and X-ray goggles which show all enemy positions to everyone on your team. Your choice of gadgets can really turn a fight in your favor.
Character Customization allows you to make your own Impostor, complete with joker face paint or a batman flapper hat. You even have the choice of voices. These choices are purely visual and audible, but it lets you stand out in the streets of Gotham.
To add to the craziness this game already throws at you, you have 1000 levels to gain! You heard me! 1000 glorious levels of unlocks and challenges!
The best part about this game might just be the price tag! For 1200ms points, or 15 dollars on the psn, you could be the proud owner of a widely tested arcade shooter that plays much better than some bigger titles on the market right now.
Long story short, is you are a batman fan, shooter fan, or both, GET THIS GAME! or at least try the trial when it releases early January.
There seems to be a trend going on in the interwebs wherein people have started to take food stuffs from video games and brought them to life (recipes included!) Take, for example, that picture there. That’s Graccu’s Mince Meat Fruitcake from WoW. See the comparison between the in-game item and the real thing?! That’s absolutely delightful! I must haz post haste!
Curious about how to make it or any number of other awesome dishes and or “potions”? .. then check out this lovely site right here on tumblr : gourmet gaming
Prefer to have a video teach you how it’s done? No problem! Check out feast of fiction (hosted by none other than freddiew ‘s brother!)
Any recipes you try and think is delicious and want to send to someone to also try should be sent directly to : rub3n
edit : you can find lots of gaming related drinks at drunken moogle
I’ve always been curious about how system manufacturers decide on how best to lay out controllers for a video game system. I mean, how do you come up deciding if you need an extra button here or if you need to remove or replace something there? Luckily, I came across this video from a youtube user who I subscribe to and highly recommend to anyone who likes retro game consoles and modding/fixing them. In this video, he blows your mind by showing how .. well, I won’t spoil it. Just check it out :)
If you like what you see, check out his channel and subscribe! He’s awesome!
I’d be genuinely surprised if this lasts for more than a week on the marketplace. Even more so if Imba doesn’t get their pants suited off. Judging from the reviews on the Appstore, it doesn’t look lke it’ll do to well, maybe they make enough to cover the eventual lawsuit damages and court costs.
Jaffe has a little gift for Twisted Metal fans who buy the game at launch, or at least near launch. Free Twisted Metal Black voucher! I was a pretty rabid fan of Twisted Metal back in the day, but unfortunately my interest in the game and the genre in general have waned. Hoping against hope, the new iteration will change my mind.
Yea, using an older iPhone for photos is bad, but it’s whats available. I was super excited to see what all my wife and family had in store for me. My wife even set up a treasure hunt for me to go on this morning with pirate-y notes in a bottle and a string of clues for me to follow in my search for booty. So lets share. What kind of gaming Xmas did you have?? Get that extra special edition of a game you’ve been wanting? The latest and greatest gaming console? Vintage cart of your favorite retro game? Please share with us what you all racked up. We’d love to see!
Just when you thought the 8bm team couldn’t invade another facet of your life, we are now a steam group! Good news, ITS PUBLIC! So click here and join up for the possibility of free stuffs in the future! The 8bm team thanks you!
Remember a time when PC shooters were a constant adrenaline rush? Remember how it felt to mow down an entire team with one clip? Remember when shooters took skill? If so, this is a game you should look out for.
Blacklight: Retribution is a new FPS-MMO being published by Perfect World. This high octane shooter rises from the ashes that was Blacklight: Tango Down, shaking off its failures, and showing nothing but pure vision and control. Three things this experience handles well are progression, customization, and graphics. No…I’m not talking about prestige on blops.
The first shining star this IP brings to the table is true character progression within an FPS. Each level you gain gives you skill points which can be used to unlock specialized training. These skill points unlock abilities ranging from shock grenade training to reviving fallen comrades. Your skill tree has 4 tiers that are unlocked after spending enough SP (skill points) in the previous tier. Along with the talent tree system, you also unlock purchasable attachments for your weapon. This is where the game truly shines!
In your customization window you have many choices, ranging from receivers, barrels, muzzles, scopes, clips, and stocks. If you are a shooter enthusiast in any capacity, your mouth should be watering about now. Receivers range from assault rifles, SMGs, and LMGs, to bolt actions. This option combined with the calculations of spread, damage, range, recoil, and equip speed make for a lot of decisions on your end. The nice thing about this complexity is that only you can be blamed for not liking your gun. Once you mess around with this feature a bit you will see what I mean.
The look of this game is what definitely rounds out the representation. The super slick controls and 40+ frames can be attributed to the immensely powerful Unreal 3 engine (which also powers Gears of War 3). That’s right! This F2P is running on cutting edge tech and it shows! Sprinting around the maps, ducking into alley ways and hiding under bridges is all too rewarding when you see the lighting effects from this engine at work.
The only downside to this amazingly polished F2P experience is that it’s in closed beta status right now. It has no dated release but the closed beta is wrapping up on January 15th. Good luck to the guys at Zombie Studios as they put the finishing touches on the game. Whether your are part of the beta now, or just reading about this for the first time, the 8bm team will make sure to keep you up to date! Expect a full review when the game is released!
Yea, that photo’s misleading. Sorry about bout that. You see, I couldn’t resist posting something as ridiculous as that. Here I am trying to find some kind of generic, albeit slightly cool looking, StarHawk screen shot but that comes up instead. So yea, it wins (or loses?). Anyway, the StarHawk beta is underway and I must say, it does prance around like an overly confident man about town. Mixing old tropes with new ideas, the game comes off as something unique and genuinely entertaining. While it’s far from balanced, the game has a dump truck load of potential. Color this one impressed. I’ll supply a healthy sized preview when I get some more time with the game, but it seems that Dark Forces are threatening some other galaxy that needs my saving!
Don’t you just hate walking around Gotham City with Batman and Joker. Living in their shadow could just make citizens take up arms and fight for their favorite hero or villain. Well here is your calling! Grab a gun and kill the Jokerz!!! or the Batz :P!!! Enjoy! CLICK HERE FOR THE CODE!
I’m not the biggest fan of Perfect World, but this looks like something I may like.. at least until Firefall comes out ;) Can’t be any worse the Tribes : Ascension. Geez that game was just painful.
Did I mention Joystiq is giving away keys? Oh I just did. Get ‘em right here.
Don’t you just hate it when you have to scavenge for signs and steel beams all day, just to have a fort built from the junk be destroyed at nite? I know I would rather just play a game about it. The amount of work required to stay alive is just too exhausting. Well, Fear no more! Epic feels our pain and has decided to make a simulation of that exact thing, if we were all from team fortress 2 of course. That personally makes it sooo much better :D! Enjoy the trailer below.
Do you view yourself as Indie? How about a gamer? One more question, got about 5 bucks? If so, the Humble Indie Bundle is just the thing for you! You know those game your have heard about, like cave story and super meat boy? Well…add 4 more games to that, and a charitable cause! Just click this or This or THIS! Enjoy the amazing awesomeness of indie devs.
